Who I am

Placeholder: name, where you work from, how long, how you came to this. It also helps to separate output from effort; productivity vs efficiency is a useful framework for that distinction.

How I work

I build sites that are fast, that work without JavaScript, and that you can maintain. Most of that is restraint rather than technique — fewer pages, fewer scripts, fewer features nobody maintains.

I work remotely, with clients anywhere. What that changes about hiring someone is worth reading if it is new to you.

What I turn down

Projects a platform builder would serve better, briefs where budget and expectation cannot be reconciled, and work where I would be the wrong person. The longer version is here, including why declining is usually better for the client too.

What you can expect

Whatever else varies between projects, four things do not. For an independent reference beyond this site, Smashing Magazine is a useful place to compare approaches.

You will own your domain, registered in your name, with your email and your card. I get added as a user. The reasoning is here, and it is the single most protective habit in this whole business.

You will get everything at the end — files, accounts, documentation — whether we part happily or otherwise. Leaving cleanly is a service too.

The site will work without JavaScript, load quickly on a phone, and meet basic accessibility standards. Not extras; the default.

I will tell you if you are about to overspend. Usually that means building something smaller, and occasionally it means not hiring me at all.
